what.a.week!

Zoe turned 10 months old last week Sunday. She is becoming a more beautiful, funny little girl with each new day!

10-Month Highlights
  • Crawling - Zoe's learned to crawl! She thinks she's pretty cool and is already getting into LOTS of mischief. :)
  • Food - She is trying all foods (except peanut butter) and loving nearly everything!
  • Pointing - It's so fun to watch Zoe notice things and point them all out.
  • Books - Zoe absolutely loves to have books read to her. She sits so well while we read and she gets overly excited with each new page!
  • Personality - Zoe's always had a vibrant personality. She brightens our days as she gets so excited about everything and laughs at herself and others. She is very dramatic and we are confident she's going to be our little "drama queen" some day.

Little did we know that Zoe's 10-month milestone marked the beginning of what turned out to be a crazy week!

Sunday night. 11:30 pm
Freezing rain. Winter storm. Power went out...it was a long, cold night! Apparently "Kalamazoo Ice Storm 2011" is the worst the area's seen since 1981! 45,000 were without power here...Lucky us! We were one of them!

Monday morning. 9:00 am
Chuck had an ice day. We got out of the house to find somewhere warm that had power and food! It took us almost 45 minutes to find a place!

Monday 4:30 pm
Our friends, the Wittes, took us in when we still didn't have power. So, we packed up Zoe and all of our things and headed on over to their house. They were incredibly hospitable.

Tuesday morning
Another ice day due to no power! Thankfully we were still staying warm at the Wittes. Alli held down at the fort at our house, so Chuck would occasionally go to check on her and to check if the power was back on.

Tuesday 9:00 pm
After getting Zoe to bed, Chuck and I went to check on the house, Alli, and to get some more belongings. Chuck was thinking of starting a fire and staying at the house with the dog that night. When we turned the corner on to our street, we saw the lights on! Power! It had just come on a short while earlier, so our house wasn't too warm, but was on its way up. We decided to go back and get Zoe, pack up our things, and sleep in our own beds that night. So, we were back home with all of our things by about 10 to a house that was starting to warm up. Bliss! So we thought...shortly after we went to bed, around midnight, the power went out again!! Needless to say, we were NOT happy.

It was such a restless, cold night's sleep. Our house was almost 45 degrees by morning. I snuggled Zoe in our bed all night to keep her toasty. I jeopardized my own sleep; thankfully, she's more than worth it. :)

Wednesday 7:30 am
Once again, Zoe and I were packed up (thanks to Chuck's assistance by candlelight) and back at the Wittes. Chuck was back to school. Such craziness! After Zoe's afternoon nap, Chuck told us we had power once again, and, thankfully it's stayed on since!

Wednesday evening
We were back home once again, which was great, but Chuck and were hit quickly by the stomach flu. It was horrible! We were both down for the count for the next 24 hours or so. Thankfully Zoe didn't get it!

Though it was quite the week, it ended well. Chuck took me out on Saturday to celebrate my 28th birthday. It was a great night! :)
